AllenES’ Principal Scientist, Brad Young, was contracted by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to assist in conducting den checks on radio-collared black bears along the Mississippi River. Young captured and fitted the female bears with tracking collars during trapping efforts in the fall of last year (2022). The females were tracked to their winter dens to document the birth of cubs for this year (2023). The newborn cubs were weighed, measured and given a microchip implant which will be used to identify them in the future.
