The MS Women in Transportation Cultivating Partnerships event was held on November 10, 2022 at The District’s Cultivation Food Hall. Melissa Pringle, Ph.D. and Rick Sumrall, P.E. of Allen Engineering and Science, Inc. joined others in the Jackson area for the first annual event.
On October 26, AllenES partners Brad Young, CWB and Will Pentecost, P.E. presented at the Southeastern Water Pollution Biologists Association meeting in Gulfport, MS. Mr. Pentecost presented the Beach Outfall Pilot Project which is designed to treat stormwater runoff for litter and other pollutants before reaching the Mississippi Sound. Mr. Young co-presented with Scott Lemmons, Director of Freshwater Programs for the Nature Conservancy about the Loch Leven Island Floodplain Reconnection project in Wilkinson County, Mississippi.

On October 25, Jay C. Estes, AICP of AllenES and Andrew Barrett of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources presented at the joint conference of the Mississippi and Alabama Chapters of the American Planning Association. The presentation, titled “Risk Analysis and Mitigation Planning in a Changing World”, focused on planning strategies designed to help communities become more resilient as impacts from climate change affect our weather patterns. The session provided one hour of continuing education credits for AICP-certified planners.
Brad Young, Certified Biologist and Principal Scientist with AllenES, is currently assisting the MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks with tagging black bears in the Mississippi Delta. Captured bears are measured, tagged, and fitted with satellite uplink collars that provide information on home ranges and habitat usage for this state-endangered species. Collars are also used to track female bears to winter dens so that cub births can be documented.
AllenES welcomes Andrew May to the Engineering Team! Andrew received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University. He previously served as an Intern with AllenES and joined the firm as a full-time employee this summer. His project experience includes heavy civil construction oversight, material testing oversight, site inspections, general construction document management, construction verification surveying, site layout and development, solid waste engineering/permitting/compliance, stormwater management design, facility wastewater management, hydraulic modeling, and roadway design. We are so pleased to have Andrew on board!
AllenES’ Construction Management and CQA staff are pictured working side-by-side with the contractor to complete the installation of 60-mil geomembrane liner on a closed rubbish landfill to support a MSW cell overlay.
AllenES is pleased to welcome two new Scientists to the team.
Chris Harland received his BS in Geological Engineering from University of Mississippi. Mr. Harland has technical and field experience specializing in environmental assessments, environmental compliance, surface and groundwater sampling, and he is a State of Mississippi Certifies Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) Inspector. Areas of concentration include Environmental Due Diligence and Risk Assessment, Remedial Investigations, and ACM Surveys.
Katelyn Giles serves as a Scientist with the firm and received a MS in Environmental Science from University of Memphis and a BS in Biology with a concentration on Marine Science from University of South Alabama. Katelyn’s research was conducted on coastal processes and marine science.
The AllenES construction team just recently completed a 3.5-acre municipal solid waste landfill cell for Waste Connections at the Leflore County Landfill. AllenES hosted a fish fry to celebrate the project completion and to thank Waste Connections for this great opportunity to build their new landfill cell.
Dr. Melissa Pringle and Owen McIntosh attended the Mississippi Economic Council (MEC) Annual Meeting to explore AI’s impact on businesses and its potential in local MS communities.
Mr. Owen McIntosh and Dr. Melissa Pringle represented AllenES at the Madison County League and Legislature Luncheon in March.
Speaker of the House, Jason White, served as the keynote presenter.
AllenES Senior Principal Planner Jay Estes, AICP presented the City of Foley, Alabama’s Resilient Housing Plan during session of the Coastal Community Resilience Working Group at the Gulf of Mexico Alliance 2024 GOMCON Conference.
The presentation was one of four concurrent sessions focused on resilient housing issues in the Gulf of Mexico Region.
